Marktleider in circulaire, losmaakbare en CO2-arme staalbouw

Circulairstaal® is a prominent market leader in sustainable and circular steel construction. In 2020, we were the first in the Netherlands to introduce a fully sustainable steel concept. This has given us a structural advantage in a market rapidly moving toward Paris Proof standards: a leading position that continues to grow through targeted innovation and proven results.

Next-level innovations

Our innovations, such as Biocoat® and Design for Disassembly, make circular and demountable steel construction scalable, cost-efficient, and fully future-proof. This aligns perfectly with the growing demand for emission-free, reusable, and transparently documented building solutions.

Using our MKI (Environmental Cost Indicator) metrics, we make environmental impact measurable and comparable. As a result, our concepts are not only technically superior but also provide demonstrable value in tenders, certifications, and sustainability goals.
BIOCOAT®

Circular steel coatings with character

BIOCOAT® - sustainable steel preservation

Biocoat® is an innovative steel coating by Circulairstaal®, developed in collaboration with partners. It is one of the most carbon-efficient and environmentally friendly coatings in today's steel market, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional wet painting in indoor situations.

The coating has a low MKI score and aligns perfectly with the circular objectives of Brink Steel Group. BIOCOAT® is suitable for steel structures in indoor environments (C1 and C2) and can also be used as a primer within a two-layer preservation system for higher load classes.

BIOCOAT® enhances the quality and lifespan of steel structures, providing protection during construction, use, and dismantling phases. The efficient application process significantly saves on raw materials, energy, transportation, and waste. Additionally, within the BIOCOAT® range, biobased variants are available.

Application of BIOCOAT® Protective Coatings

BIOCOAT® protective coating systems are suitable for indoor environments with a maximum relative humidity of 40% and fall within corrosivity categories C1 and C2 (in accordance with common classifications such as ISO 12944).

Scope & Conditions

Indoor, C1

Heated spaces with a clean indoor climate and minimal pollution.
Examples: distribution centers, offices, retail stores, schools, hotels.

Indoor, C2

Unheated or intermittently conditioned spaces where occasional condensation may occur.
Examples: storage facilities, sports halls.

Important Considerations

  • Do not apply in environments with aggressive vapors/chemicals or in outdoor applications.

  • Ensure a design that prevents stagnant moisture areas (avoid thermal bridges) and provide adequate ventilation.

  • Always follow the project-specific application instructions:

    • Substrate must be dry and clean

    • Correct coating system build-up

    • Adequate curing time

This ensures optimal durability and long-term performance of the protective coating system.

Dismantlable construction

Design for Disassembly (DfD)

Designing for disassembly is an essential part of the Circulairstaal® approach. Steel structures are designed according to the principle of Design for Disassembly (DfD): prepared for disassembly, modification, and reuse from the initial design.

Instead of permanent welding, Circulairstaal® uses as many dry, detachable connections and smart connectors as possible. This allows steel components to be disassembled and reused without damage — within the same building or in a new application.

DfD means that a steel structure is not seen as a final product, but as a temporary assembly of valuable components. Through recognizable components, accessible connections, and reusable detailing, steel remains part of a closed material cycle, without loss of quality.
